ZOIS AWARDS

The Zois Award and the Zois Certificate of Recognition

 

Awards and certificates of recognition conferred for achievements in scientific, research and development activities a

  • the Zois Award,
  • the Zois Certificate of Recognition.

 

The Zois Award is conferred for:

  • lifetime achievements to researchers who have most excelled in their scientific, research and development work,
  • outstanding achievements in scientific, research and development activities.

 

The Zois Certificate of Recognition is awarded for significant achievements in scientific, research and development activities.

 

The Zois Award and the Zois Certificate of Recognition are conferred to researchers in the Republic of Slovenia for their achievements and lasting contribution to scientific, research and development activities in the Republic of Slovenia.

 

In awarding the Zois Award for outstanding achievements in scientific, research and development activities and the Zois Certificate of Recognition, works published in the seven years prior to the nomination are taken into account.

 

 

Ambassador of Science of the Republic of Slovenia Certificate of Recognition and the Puh Certificate of Recognition

 

The following two certificates of recognition are also awarded in the area of research and development activities:

  • the Ambassador of Science of the Republic of Slovenia Certificate of Recognition
  • the Puh Certificate of Recognition.

 

The Board confers the Ambassador of Science of the Republic of Slovenia Certificate of Recognition for important achievements in research activities to Slovenians who live in neighbouring countries and to those who are or were engaged abroad.

 

The Board rewards important achievements in development activities by the Puh Certificate of Recognition for inventions, development achievements and the use of scientific results in introducing innovation in business practice.

 

Appointment, composition and working methods of the Board

The Zois Award, the Zois Certificate of Recognition, the Ambassador of Science of the Republic of Slovenia Certificate of Recognition and the Puh Certificate of Recognition are conferred by the Board of the Republic of Slovenia for the Zois Award, the Zois Certificate of Recognition, the Ambassador of Science of the Republic of Slovenia Certificate of Recognition and the Puh Certificate of Recognition (hereinafter: Board).

 

The Board is appointed by the Government of the Republic of Slovenia from among renowned researchers. Members of the Board are nominated by the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, universities and higher education institutions, research institutions, commercial organisation and individual researchers.

 

The Board consists of fourteen members and the president. It is composed so that all science fields are represented.

 

The president and members of the Board are appointed for the period of four years; on the first appointment, seven members have a two-year mandate, while other members are appointed for four years.

 

In 2014 - 2016, the Board was composed of the President, Prof. Tamara Lah Turnšek, and the following members: Prof. Tatjana Avšič Županc, Prof. Gregor Anderluh, Prof. Radovann Stanislav Pejovnik, Prof. Sonja Šostar Turk, Prof. Barbara Malič, Prof. Štefko Miklavič,  Prof. Matjaž Valant, Prof. Lovro Šturm, Prof. Matija Tuma, Prof. Matevž Tomšič, Prof. Stane Granda, Prof.Marko Jesenšek, Prof. Danilo Zavrtanik and Academic Prof. Ivan Bratko.

 

The Board adopted rules specifying the method of its work, the method of setting up expert commissions and their respective areas of work, the manner of proposing candidates, the form and content of a public call, criteria for conferring awards and certificates of recognition, the method of decision-making and the manner of presentation of awards and certificates of recognition. The rules enter into force after they are approved by the Government of the Republic of Slovenia and published in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia.

 

Public call for awards and certificates of recognition is published annually by the Board.

The candidates for the awards and certificates of recognition may be nominated by natural and legal persons.

 

Presentation of awards and certificates of recognition

Each year, all the awards and certificates of recognition are presented on the anniversary of the birth of Žiga Zois.
